Senkung der Körperschaftssteuer von 34 auf 25 Prozent: Sie sei gerade jetzt, wo Unternehmen vor der EU-Erweiterung die Investitionen für die Jahre 2005 bis 2010 planen, das beste Mittel, um Investitionen nach Österreich zu bringen und damit Arbeitsplätze zu sichern.
Was erwartet das Volk?
Was sich die Österreicherinnen und Österreicher vom kommenden Bundespräsidenten oder der kommenden Bundespräsidentin erwarten, das versuchte eine Umfrage des Linzer IMAS-Instituts herauszufinden.
Die Möglichkeiten des Staatsoberhauptes, das politische Geschehen in Österreich zu beeinflussen, werden laut dem am Donnerstag präsentierten Umfrageergebnis von 63 Prozent als"eher gering" < FALSCH ! - eingeschätzt.
18 Prozent haben dazu keine Meinung. Im Mai 1992 glaubten noch 26 Prozent an "große Möglichkeiten", damals sahen erst 53 Prozent "eher geringe" Einflussmöglichkeiten des Bundespräsidenten.

Gleichheit von Männern und Frauen
Die Gleichheit von Männern und Frauen ist in allen Bereichen, auch auf dem Gebiet der Beschäftigung, der Arbeit und des Arbeitsentgelts, sicherzustellen. Der Grundsatz der Gleichheit steht der Beibehaltung oder der Einführung spezifischer Vergünstigungen für das unterrepräsentierte Geschlecht nicht entgegen.
Solidaritäts-Bekundungen
In den vergangenen Tagen hatte es von Spitzenfunktionären der Volkspartei bereits zahlreiche Solidaritäts-Bekundungen für Ferrero-Waldner gegeben. So wurde die Kandidatur unter anderem von den Landeshauptmännern Franz Schausberger (Salzburg) und Herwig van Staa (Tirol) ausdrücklich befürwortet.Auch Gesundheitsministerin

und
Martin Bartenstein zeigten sich von Ferrero-Waldner überzeugt.
Zuletzt machten Nationalratspräsident Andreas Khol undFinanzminister Karl-Heinz Grasser klar, dass sich die
Außenministerin - bei aller Wertschätzung für den SPÖ-Kandidaten Heinz Fischer - ihrer Unterstützung erfreuen dürfe.

Lange
Karriere in der Partei
gilt als ausgewogen und
sehr loyal gegenüber seiner Partei.
Er ist einer der erfahrensten sozialdemokratischen Politiker und gilt als besonnen und kalmierend: der Zweite Nationalratspräsident und SPÖ-Vizechef Heinz Fischer.
Der 65-jährige Wiener steht für absolute Loyalität zur Partei und ihrem jeweiligen Vorsitzenden. Sein Credo ist die Ausgewogenheit, sein Werdegang bereits 40 Jahre lang mit dem Parlament verbunden.
Federführend bei Programmen
Fischer hat die Grundsatzkonzepte der SPÖ, aber auch die Reform der Geschäftsordnung des Nationalrats federführend mitgestaltet. Er ist verheiratet und Vater zweier Kinder.
"Kronprinz des Sonnenkönigs"
Als sich Anfang der achtziger Jahre das Ende der Ära Bruno Kreisky abzeichnete, zählte Fischer neben Leopold Gratz und Karl Blecha zu den prominentesten "Kronprinzen" des "Sonnenkönigs".
Als Kreisky 1983 die neuerliche absolute Mehrheit versagt blieb und er daraufhin zurücktrat, ging die SPÖ eine Koalition mit den Freiheitlichen ein, in der Heinz Fischer zunächst Minister wurde.
Wissenschaftsminister in den 80ern
Der Verfassungsjurist ist seit 1971 Abgeordneter zum Nationalrat, unterbrochen nur von mehr als drei Jahren als Wissenschaftsminister. Zwölf Jahre lang war Fischer Nationalratspräsident, seit Ende 2002 muss er sich mit dem zweiten Platz begnügen.
Sozialdemokratische Wurzeln
Fischer wurde am 9. Oktober 1938 in eine sozialdemokratische Familie hinein geboren. Sein Vater, Rudolf Fischer, war von 1954 bis 1956 Staatssekretär im Handelsministerium in der Regierung Raab/Schärf.
Die Schule besuchte Heinz Fischer in Wien, 1961 promovierte er zum Dr. jur., 1993 wurde er "Ordentlicher Universitätsprofessor".
Vom Parlamentarier zum Präsidenten
Nach seiner Gerichtspraxis kam Fischer als Jurist in den Klub der SPÖ-Parlamentarier. 1963 bis 1975 war er Sekretär des Klubs, dann Geschäftsführender Klubobmann, Minister für Wissenschaft und Forschung von 1983 bis 1987 und Klubchef (1987-1990).
1971 wurde er Abgeordneter, 1990 zum Nationalratspräsidenten gewählt.
Leitende Funktionen
1972 übernahm Fischer daneben die Präsidentschaft der "Naturfreunde Österreichs". Der Verfassungsexperte Fischer ist außerdem Mitglied des Parteivorstands und des Parteipräsidiums der SPÖ sowie seit November 1979 einer der Stellvertretenden Bundesparteivorsitzenden.
Sachbücher und Memoiren
Fischer ist Autor zahlreicher politikwissenschaftlicher und historischer Sachbücher, wie etwa"Das politische System Österreichs" (1975)
und
"Die Kreisky-Jahre" (1993).
Mittlerweile legte er auch seine Memoiren unter dem Titel"Reflexionen" (1998)
vor, zuletzt beschrieb er unter dem Titel
"Wende-Zeit"
die vergangenen drei Jahre.

Snow White and the Swedish Dolts

The “artwork” is titled “Snow White and the Madness of Truth” and it will be on display at the Historical Museum exhibition for an international anti-genocide conference in Stockholm this month.
Although the title of this piece of “art” may sound like a fairy tale, it is more akin to a nightmare. The piece consists of a shallow basin of water dyed red to simulate blood and a small white boat with a picture mounted on its mast, perhaps to act as a sail. The picture on this makeshift sail is a smiling portrait of Hanadi Jadarat, a Palestinian female homicide bomber who murdered twenty one Israelis including several children.
Upon seeing this avant garde display of vulgarity, the Israeli Ambassador, Zvi Mazel, promptly yanked out the electrical wires connected to the display and threw one of the spotlights into the basin.
If at this point you do not share Mazel’s revulsion of this trash masquerading as art, consider some choice passages I have selected from the text accompanying the display:
“…her[Jaradat’s] hair was as black as ebony seemingly innocent with universal non-violent character.”
Seemingly innocent? Jaradat was a member of the terrorist group Islamic Jihad. Universal non-violent character? You must be joking, she blew up twenty one innocent men, women and children with a bomb strapped to her body. It makes you wonder what a truly violent individual would do.
“The murderer will yet pay the price.”
No doubt that this refers to the Israeli soldiers who shot and killed her brother and cousin who were also terrorists affiliated with Islamic Jihad. Do these words sound like a seemingly innocent universal non-violent character to you? While you think about that, dear reader, I have one more uplifting passage to lay on you.
“…she added: ‘If our nation cannot realize its dream and the goals of the victims, and live in freedom and dignity, then let the whole world be erased.’”
What a sweet, loving, sentiment! “Then let the whole world be erased.” It makes you just want to hug the world with an ultra special and sensitive, seemingly innocent and non-violent character!
So you’re not sick to your stomach yet? You think you can handle even more? Then read what the Swedish Foreign Ministry and the “artist” Dror Feiler had to say regarding Mazel’s reaction.
Swedish Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Anna Larsson: “We will ask him [Mazel] to explain and from our side we will maintain that it is unacceptable to destroy works of art in this way.”
The explanation for Mazel’s behavior, Spokeswoman Larsson, is that the Swedish government, in contravention to understandings with Israel, linked the conference to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the most despicable manner: by referring to a terrorist as Snow White and having her image floating on a sea of blood of innocent victims. Mazel did not destroy a work of art. He rid the “enlightened European art world” of an abomination.
The exhibit’s “artist” Dror Feiler: Called Mazel’s actions, “Vandalism,” and explained that, “The artwork was supposed to call attention to how weak people left alone can be capable of horrible things.”
Feiler is an Israeli living in Sweden. At one time he served as an Israeli paratrooper but later refused to serve in Gaza. Placing his yearning for peace above all other values, Feiler calls Mazel’s reaction vandalism yet Feiler feels no compunction about vandalizing the memory of over twenty people murdered by a monster. Furthermore, Jaradat was not a “weak person” as Feiler would have us believe. She was a lawyer, the elite of society. Horrible things do not happen when people are left alone. They happen when those people are consumed by blind hatred that is so fanatical it allows them to kill children.
Before closing out, I must thank the Swedish government, without whom none of this outrage would have been possible. The Swedish government managed two extraordinary feats in this elaborate escapade. First, it reneged on a promise to Israelnot to make the exhibit political by linking the conference to the Middle East conflict. Second, it simultaneously allowed into the exhibit three Israeli pieces of art that were pro-Palestinian in nature while excluding a pro-Israeli piece because of diplomatic pressure from that champion of human rights, Syria!
Some of you may think that this incident has left me bitter, but actually I’m inspired. You see, I consider myself an artist. Since this Swedish exhibit will not open to the public until later this month, I figure I will submit this piece as a replacement to the text currently hanging by the exhibit. Being true to myself as an artist, I will only insist on one thing from the Swedish government. So as not to compromise my artistic integrity, they must consent to change the display from the bizarre “Snow White and the Madness of Truth” to my more appropriate and accurate “Snow White and the Swedish Dolts.”

Israel will boycott next week's international genocide conference in Stockholm unless Sweden disowns an exhibit at a related art show that includes a photograph of a Palestinian suicide bomber, Foreign Minister Sylvan Shalom said.
